The infamous Roadie mix. I have been compiling
and distributing this for this for several years. Hey, everybody needs
a hobby. Any roadie who has been through Syracuse may have received
one. It is getting kinda popular. A little history for those who may
care:
I used to be a Dj at a strip club. During that time I
amassed a great deal of music. My collection rivaled that of a small
radio station. I had just about everything. I finally left that gig to
preserve what was left of my sanity and took my music with me. For a
while it just sat on a shelf.
After spending some time working backstage, I stumbled upon Roadie.net
and found the old top ten of roadie songs. An idea was born. I would
compile a comprehensive collection of every roadie song known to
mankind. It would be colossal! It would be gigantic! To use the
Syracuse vernacular: It would be HUUUUUUUUGEE!
It wasn't so big at first. One disc. And I struggled to fill that. But
it has grown. A LOT. I now have guys that come through town looking for
the updated version. They are always surprised to hear, "Now its 3
discs." or, "Now its up to 5". I get great joy from their reactions.
There are only two ways to get the original "Roadie
Mix". By "original", I mean the discs and the, oh so slick, packaging.
;-)
1. You must come through Syracuse with a tour AND be nice to the
riggers. This makes more work for me with someone who is nice. Its a
good thing.
2. You are my personal friend that works in the business.
No one else can have one. Consider it an industry secret. My reasons
for this are simple. I download all of the music for the mix. Some I
have purchased years ago and sometimes, albeit rarely, I still buy some
just for this project. But, primarily, its all downloaded. Some would
call that stealing. I look at it this way: Any artist that has an issue
with this, really needs to check their ego. This mix goes only to those
who make it possible for them to have a career in the first place. If
they can't throw us a bone, well then, fuck them and sue me. Besides,
if they don't make enough money selling records, then they have to tour
more. And, hey, that's just more work for all of us.
Occasionally someone asks, "How much do you want for
that?". I state this unequivocally: I WILL NEVER, EVER, NEVER, UNDER
ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CHARGE SO MUCH AS A PENNY FOR THIS MIX. NEVER.
It is a labor of love. To quote Brother Edward, "The joy is first in
the making and then in the giving. I am doubly blessed."
I do, however, gladly accept extra swag.
The linked songs go to the lyrics for that song. And
hey, if you find a song that you think belongs on this compilation, e-mail me (Be sure to place
"Roadie Mix" in the subject line). I'd love to know about it. And tell
me if you think one doesn't belong, too.
So, enjoy. If you don't have one, convince your tour
to come through Syracuse. Or hop on one that already is. Just don't
forget to be nice to the riggers. :-D
